Our Chevrolet Bolt

In 2021, we added a Chevrolet Bolt to our fleet- our first all-electric vehicle (EV). The Bolt serves as an educational opportunity for both Owen Electric and our members.

As electric vehicles become more prevalent in automobile market, the Bolt is a tool to help us educate our members on the advantages of EVs while also reducing our carbon footprint.

Is an electric car (EV) right for you?

Range anxiety is real, but how often do you travel more than 200 miles per day?

Here are some quick facts about EVs:

  • 90 percent of all charging will be done at home
  • Charging generally takes 6-9 hours depending on how far you have driven
  • Level III fast chargers take approximately 12 minutes to charge
  • Lower maintenance costs mean more savings in the long run
  • Most batteries are warranted for 10 years or 100,000 miles
  • EVs are more climate-friendly
  • Tax credits can make an EV more affordable to purchase
  • You won't sacrifice features or comfort when choosing an EV over a gas-powered vehicle

Electric Vehicle Federal Tax Credit up to $7,500

A federal income tax credit up to $7,500 is available for the purchase of a qualifying EV. The minimum credit amount is $2,500, and the credit may be up to $7,500, based on each vehicle's battery capacity and the gross vehicle weight rating. Your eligibility for income tax credits depends on your personal tax situation. We recommend speaking with a tax professional for guidance.

The credit begins to phase out for each vehicle manufacturer once they have sold 200,000 eligible electric vehicles in the United States (as counted from January 1, 2010). The IRS will announce when a manufacturer exceeds this production volume and will announce the subsequent phase-out schedule on the IRS website.

  • Consult your tax adviser to make sure you qualify
  • Max tax credit $7,500
  • Restrictions apply, subject to change without notice
