OEC Lineman Appreciation Day: April 17
All of us at Owen Electric Cooperative are dedicated to improving the quality of life in the communities we serve. Yet no one works harder or longer hours than our co-op linemen.
It’s a marvel of this era that electricity is a given. Thanks to co-op leaders of previous generations, we have a system and a structure in place to serve you. Our linemen play a critical role in making sure Owen Electric’s infrastructure is built and maintained so that we may consistently provide our members safe, reliable and affordable electricity.
On April 17, Owen Electric will honor the hard-working men who often face challenging conditions to keep the lights on. We are proud to honor the lineworkers that maintain the power lines in our service territory.
The efforts and sacrifice of our linemen are plain to see. But, you may not realize the amount of training and study it takes to become a lineman. It’s about a five-year process to advance from an apprentice level lineman to a journeyman lineman. Apprentices work alongside our veterans, learning best practices and what we expect of them.
We stress safety every day at Owen Electric. When working with electricity, diligence and professionalism are absolute necessities. That’s why the linemen who work to restore and maintain your power never stop training. In conjunction with the Kentucky Association of Electric Cooperatives, our linemen are always learning and are held to professional standards to keep everyone safe.
Owen Electric invites you to take a moment to thank a lineman for the work they do. Use #ThankaLineman on social media to show your support for the men and women who light our lives.
